The Gift of Giving Back

In 2020, our festive celebrations were all about giving back to some of the amazing people and charities that do such wonderful work in our community.

As part of this we installed a giant giving box in the centre to raise money for three local charities.

We know that charities across our communities continue to need our support more than ever, so our giving boxes are here to stay for 2021, with a brand new look!

Located in Town Square, visitors can use contactless payment to easily donate £1, £3 or £5 to The Abbeyfield Fareham Society, Friends of PICU and Solent Acts of Kindness.

Thank you for helping us to continue to support these amazing organisations. Find out more about their work below.

The Abbeyfield Fareham Society

The Abbeyfield Fareham Society is a charity supported by a team of independent volunteers. It offers active, elderly people the comfort, companionship and security of its upgraded two houses conveniently located near Fareham Town centre. Abbeyfield is not a care home but combines the independence of self-contained rooms with the friendly company of other residents in the shared lounge, dining room and beautiful garden.

The society is managed by a committee of volunteer trustees. It employs housekeepers and cleaning staff and are fortunate to be supported by a loyal group of volunteers who offer help with the gardens, open days, parties as well as many other activities throughout the year. They are also supported by a team of volunteers who act as trustees to manage the entire running of Abbeyfield from Finances, Maintenance, Health and Safety as well as Residents and Staff wellbeing.

Friends of PICU

Southampton’s Paediatric Intensive Care Unit is the regional lead centre for critically ill children.  Over 1000 children are admitted each year for specialist care from 27 referring hospitals across the South of England and the Channel Islands, and from the various children’s wards at University Hospital Southampton.  Friends of PICU contribute to every part of the child’s specialist care – from new impatient intensive care beds, PICU specialist retrieval ambulances, all-important spaces for families to rest, and state of the art equipment.  No child will pass through PICU without being helped by equipment and resources that Friends of PICU has purchased and donated.

Solent Acts of Kindness

Solent Acts of Kindness supports those in the community who are going through a difficult situation. They help everyone and provide food, clothing and household items to those in need.  Through the Covid crisis the team has served over 5000 people with food and items and continue to do so. They aim to spread kindness throughout the community and e work with the community to provide local people with kind donations, skills, time and expertise.
